Sunshine Coast needs a highway
How we got here
Members of the Davis Bay Parkway Society Committee decided in the Spring of 2018 to pursue one of the main objectives, namely a Highway bypass. A new committee (SC101) was formed with the initial objective of raising a petition to present to the BC Government. Originating members were Robin Merriott, Maureen Bryce, Jonalyn Siemens, Aldo & Johanna Taachi and Carmen Borthwick.
It quickly became evident from public support and comments that the real need was for a complete new Highway from Langdale through to Sechelt and beyond.
Discussions with Nicholas Simons, our MLA were held and he agreed to present our petition in The BC Legislature and arrange a meeting with Claire Trevena, The Minister of Transportation & Infrastructure.
Our petition was presented in The BC Legislature on Wednesday March 27th 2019 with four of our members present to witness it.
In June 2019 The Sunshine Highway Society was formed and SC101 transitioned over to continue the campaign for the much needed highway.
The Campaign Continues
Members were busy from April 2018 initially collecting petition signatures. After presentation of the petition the campaign has continued with seeking support from local Government and community groups. Members have continued with information desks at various public events throughout the Sunshine Coast. Conversations with The Minister of Transportation and our MLA continue.
